Kaminura Kenshin faces 10-year prison risk after sexual assault charge in Hong Kong

Japanese boy group 'One N’ Only' member Kaminura Kenshin (26) has been charged with obscene assault in Hong Kong, according to reports from foreign media outlets, including the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP). The incident has led to significant repercussions for the artist and his group.

On the 5th (local time), Hong Kong police arrested Kaminura following a report of sexual assault at a restaurant on Portland Street in Mong Kok on the evening of the 2nd. The alleged assault occurred after Kaminura attended his first overseas fan meeting in Hong Kong's East Dongdong, alongside actor Motojima Junsei, his co-star in the drama 'Minor.' Kaminura had been scheduled to continue his Asia tour, with stops in Thailand, Osaka, and Tokyo.

The incident reportedly took place when Kaminura visited a restaurant with staff members, including the victim, who had served as an interpreter during the fan meeting. According to sources, the victim and Kaminura had met for the first time on the day of the event. Following the alleged assault, Kaminura was arrested in Tsim Sha Tsui on the 2nd and appeared in a local court on the 4th to face the sexual assault charge.

The next hearing is set for April 15. The case is being investigated by a Mong Kok regional investigation team. Under Hong Kong law, a conviction for sexual assault can carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

In response to the allegations, Kaminura's agency, Stardust, issued a statement announcing his immediate withdrawal from the group and the termination of his contract as of the 4th. The agency expressed regret over the situation, stating, "Due to the serious violation of regulations by Kaminura, we are informing you that he has withdrawn from the group and his contract has ended as of the 4th." They also apologized to fans and those affected by the incident, adding, "We apologize to fans and those involved for the sudden announcement. Moving forward, 'One N’ Only' will continue as a five-member group, and scheduled performances in Japan will proceed as planned."

However, the Osaka events scheduled for April and the Tokyo fan meeting in May have been canceled in light of the incident. The group's future activities will now focus on their remaining five members, as they aim to move forward from this controversy.

The case has sparked widespread attention, both in Japan and internationally, as fans and the public await further developments in the legal proceedings.
